William Michael “Mike” Long of Sibley MO.
A friend to all, and a man of many words, if you knew Mike, he never told a short story. Mike was a man of great integrity. Never met a stranger and would talk to anyone.
Mike was surrounded by family and friends when he passed away on June 14, 2022, at the age of 63 after a very courageous battle with cancer.
Mike was born on November 5th, 1958, in Independence, MO. It didn’t take long for Mike to obtain Eagle Scout status in 1974. After graduating from Fort Osage High School in 1977, Mike went on to receive his bachelor’s degree at Northwest Missouri State University. He then started working at KCP&L through IBEW Local Union 1613. His greatest accomplishment was being Business Manager from 1997 through 2009. Mike was able to negotiate new job classifications and was the first utility representative to have a seat as a Trustee on the NECA Healthcare Plan. He also successfully negotiated premium free healthcare for his members.
Shortly after his retirement from KCP&L through Local Union 1613 he went on to become a Financial Advisor.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed working on the farm. He enjoyed traveling on cruise ships to different ports with his wife. Mike had many stories of family vacations including taking the children to Cheyenne to watch the rodeos and playing cowboy. But most of all Mike loved playing with his grandchildren, Peyton and Paisley.
Above all else, Mike’s faith in God was his biggest passion in life.
Mike is survived by his wife, Kimmie; a son, Justin; a daughter, Lauren, and her husband; his bonus children, Rachael, and Jordan; his two grandchildren, Peyton & Paisley; brother, Jeff; sister, Jacque; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents William Long and Geraldine Long.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Buckner Restoration Branch Church.
