Lawrence Philip “Phil” Lowderman, 74, passed away on April 9, 2016.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 14, at Oak Grove Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital in his honor.
Phil was born on January 9, 1942, in Independence, MO, to Lawrence William and Jewel June (Ellis) Lowderman. He graduated from Northeast High School, and went on to work for the Social Service Center as well as Blue Valley Industries. He was a founding member and creator of “Happy Hut Teen Town,” which welcomed local children and adults with special needs to dance, sing, and connect with one another on a weekly basis. Phil was a people person; he never met a stranger. For the past 18 years, he was living at the Groves, where he would participate in the choir and attend the Community of Christ sermons. He loved watching and cheering on the Kansas City Royals.
He is survived by his brother, Ernest Lowderman (wife, Cynthia); sister, Elaine Benson; nieces and nephews, Steven, Scott, Stacy, Kevin, Cheryl, Bryan, and Linda; 11 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 5 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Norman Benson; and one great-great-nephew, Gabriel.
