Thomas L. Lukens, Sr., 60, Independence, MO passed away Dec. 29, 2012. Services will be 10 am, Thursday, Jan. 3, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Wed. at the chapel. Graveside services will be at 2 pm, Friday at Boone Creek Baptist Cemetery in Licking, MO. Kindly omit flowers. Tom was born June 14, 1952 in Kansas City, MO. He attended Van Horn High School. He was an auto mechanic who worked at K-Mart for twenty years. He worked for Firestone since 1993, most recently at the Independence store on 291. In years past, he had been a driver racing on circle dirt tracks in Warrensburg, Adrian and Topeka. Recently he enjoyed going to the Ozark Raceway in Rogersville, MO to watch his nephew and brother drag race. He was most proud of his 1978 25th Anniversary Corvette.
Tom is survived by sons Tom Lukens, Jr. and wife Jennifer, Oak Grove, MO; Tim Lukens; mother Ann Lukens; brother Harry Lukens and wife Patricia; grandchildren Kaleb, Brianna & Tayler Lukens; nephews Harry Lukens, Jr. and Ronnie Lukens and wife Jennifer, all of Independence, MO.
