Harriette Haworth Lyon

February 28, 1913 — January 26, 2007

Harriette Haworth Lyon (age 93) traveled from this earth to her heavenly home on Jan. 26, 2007. She was born on Feb. 28, 1913 in St. Joseph, Missouri and graduated high school in 1931 from Washington (Iowa) High School. She attended college one year in 1932. She owned and operated the Automatic Laundry at 620 S. Crysler for many years before graduating from KU Medical Center as an LPN at age 54. She nursed at MCI for 21 years before retiring at age 78. A dedicated member of The Community of Christ, she volunteered for many years for the Laurel Club as well as at the museum in The Temple. She loved to quilt and crochet and made lap robes as a volunteer for Cancer Action. She was a long-time member of TOPS, enjoying the meetings and fellowship of the members. She had lived in Independence since 1943 and married John Haworth, who preceded her in death in 1967. She later married Coleman Lyon, who preceded her death in 1977. During her long life she traveled to all the states including Alaska and Hawaii as well as to many parts of the world, including Asia, Australia, Europe, Canada, South America, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. A resident of Rosewood at the Groves for the last three years, she is survived by her daughter, Mary Lu Haworth Foreman and husband Charles of Shawnee, KS, two granddaughters, Cindy Foreman of Fairway, KS and Melinda Boor and husband Jeff of Olathe, KS and one great grandson, Charles Foreman Boor. A devout Christian, a hard worker at career and volunteer work, an avid traveler and seeker of knowledge, and a loving mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed by her family. A service of remembrance will be held at The Groves Chapel at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30. Visitation at 9:30 a.m. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
