Kenneth Albert “Ken” Machamer, of Independence, MO, a family man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren, passed away on December 5, 2020. He was 82 years old. Ken was born on July 22, 1938 in Davenport, Iowa, to Herbert and Myrtle (Oldenburg) Machamer. He graduated from Davenport High School in the class of 1956, then went on to the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for four years. On August 24, 1974, he married Linda Louise McGowan, and of that union they raised four children: Douglas, Gary, Dawn and EmmaKay. He worked as an engineer for AT&T for 28 years. Ken also took pride as being a lifetime member of the Eastview Lions Club. He was a fun person with a silly personality and full of wit. Ken enjoyed collecting John Deere Tractors old classic cars and trains and spending time with his dogs, Braxton, Jennie and Derks. One of his favorite quotes that will be missed by many was, “Same reason blackberries are red when they’re green.”
Ken is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Machamer; children, Douglas, Gary (Allison), Dawn and EmmaKay Machamer; grandchildren, Austin Winslow, Kayla, Allen, Kaden and Ashlyn Machamer; great-granddaughter, Aviana Glidewell; brother, Wayne Machamer and sister, Marllow May. He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Myrtle Machamer; sister, Arlene Machamer and first wife, Kay Machamer.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, December 10, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th. St. in Independence, MO. Due to COVID-19 restrictions the service will be private for family only. He will be laid to rest at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.
