Martha A. Machir (Tullis)

Martha A. Machir, 94 of Independence, MO, passed away Monday, January 5, 2015 at Vitas Hospice. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2015 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Burial will follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening at the chapel. Donations may be made in her name to Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church. Martha was born September 2, 1920 in Kansas City, MO to N. LeRoy and Anna M. (Braun) Tullis and has been a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Northeast High School in 1937 then worked at Hall Brothers for 9 years. She later worked for McHenry’s Utility Pay Service from 1975 until she retired in 1984. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, cooking and arts and crafts. She was a member of Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church, where she served as circle leader, vice-president, and treasurer of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Northeast High School Alumni Association. She is survived by: a daughter, Margaret Fields and husband Cyrus of Independence, MO; a son, James Machir and wife Kathy of San Miguel, Mexico; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Machir in 2002 and 2 brothers, John Tullis and Ed Tullis.
