Kathryn E. Mader, 99, of Independence, died June 28, 2006 at the John Knox Care Center. Visitation will be held for Mrs. Mader on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul�s United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Kathryn was born on February 23, 1907 in Rosedale, Kansas the daughter of William C. and Verna A. (Johnston) Peck. She was a graduate of the Emporia State Teacher�s College. Kathryn loved children, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, flowers, home decorating, ballroom dancing and traveling the world. She was a member of St. Paul�s United Methodist Church where she was in the Bell Choir, life member of the P.E.O. Chapter, past worthy matron of the Eastern Star, and the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation where she was a great contributor to children�s charities. She married Edward Mader on May 2, 1927, he died in August of 1982 after 55 years of marriage. She is survived by a son, John G. Mader and his wife Kay of Independence, a granddaughter, Melissa D. Mader-Schaefer and her husband David of Lee�s Summit, Mo., a grandson, Michael J. Mader and his wife LeeAnn of Independence; and six great grandchildren; Kathryn Danielle Schaefer, Marie Nicole Mader, Matthew Edward Mader, John Paul Mader, Michael Joseph Mader and James Gregory Mader, step grandchildren; Lisa and Steve Cobb, Ammon Suddaby and
Amber Suddaby, and a former daughter-in-law Elda Mader of Independence, Mo. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hortense Wilson and June Peck. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Children�s Mercy Hospital. Online condolences to www.speakschapel.com.
