Donald Kristian Madsen, 72, of Independence, passed away February 14, 2018. A visitation will be held Saturday, February 17th from 2-3:30pm with a memorial service following at 3:30pm, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. A graveside memorial service will be held in IA at a later date. Donald was born June 10, 1945 in Algona, IA to Chris and Mary (Wyse) Madsen. After graduating high school, Don joined the United States Army and served from 1965-1967. He then married his beloved wife, Marilyn Maassen on June 1, 1968. Don was employed with Independence Power and Light in many capacities over the course of 30 years. He loved woodworking and being outdoors, but his passion was his family. Don is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sandra Madsen; a baby girl, Kirsten, and a baby boy, Jason. He is survived by his love, Marilyn; two sons, Tim Madsen and his wife, Tracey and Shawn Madsen; four grandchildren, Justin, Shea, Hailey and Madelyn; brother, Joe Madsen (Caroline) of FL, sister, Joan Pedersen (Dan) of MO, and brother, Clyde Madsen (Teresa) of IA; many nieces and nephews and his Aunt Bernece Hersom, 107, of IA.
