Eleanor "Jean" Major

Eleanor "Jean� Major, 91, of Independence, MO, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at the Medical Center of Independence. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2007 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Visitation will be 2-4:00 p.m. Sunday. Cremation to follow services. Jean was born June 28, 1915 in Kansas City, MO to Leo William and Ruby Alice (Williams) Porter. She retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1978. Mrs. Major was a self-sufficient and independent woman who enjoyed caring for others. Jean loved traveling in her retirement to visit friends in Texas as well as yearly trips to Branson and South Dakota with her son, Bill. She is survived by two sons David Major and wife Deborah, and Bill Major; five grandsons, Justin and Brandon Major, and Stephen, Kevin and Darren Gaines; and one great-granddaughter. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Francis Major in 1983; her son Douglas Gaines in 2006; and her brother and sister-in-law William and Edith Porter.
