Norma Mangels

Norma V. “Val” Mangels, 88 of Independence, MO, passed away, Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Independence Manor. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Fairmount Christian Church 641 S. Ash, Independence, MO 64053. Private inurnment will be at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering c/o Fairmount Christian Church. Val was born July 15, 1924 in Madison, IL to Alva D. and Stella (Sloan) Barbre. She grew up in Illinois and graduated from Madison High School in 1942. She was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker who enjoyed painting, crocheting, quilting and watching her grandchildren’s sports. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Independence, MO and had served on the Independence Regional Health Center Auxiliary. She was married to Dr. Kenneth A. Mangels on May 1, 1945; he preceded her in death in 1981. Survivors include; 2 sons, Mark Mangels and wife Kim of Independence, MO and Roger Mangels of Elkhorn, NE; 5 grandchildren, Matt and his wife Amy, Megan and her husband Jake, Katie and her husband Ryan, Cooper and Lindsay and 9 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Wayne Mangels in 2010 and Richard Mangels in 1998.
