Betty L. Manselle  (Barton)

November 12, 1938 — July 17, 2018

Betty L. Manselle, 79, a resident of Independence, died July 17, 2018 after a seven month battle with cancer. Born in Macon, Missouri to Marjorie and Edwin Barton, Betty was raised in Kansas City, Missouri along with four siblings and graduated from North East High School. Betty was a stay at home mom for many years and an active volunteer at her children’s schools. Betty joined the work force as a nurse’s aide in Independence in 1977. She later worked at GEHA until she retired after over 20 years of employment. Upon retirement, Betty focused on traveling and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty enjoyed volunteering and was an active member of American Legion Tirey J. Ford Post #21 in Independence, Missouri, serving and volunteering in many capacities to include Ladies Auxiliary President. Betty was preceded in death by her first husband Noel Manselle, second husband Dewey Brown, parents, and sisters Joann Maloy and Elizabeth Kuhn. Betty leaves behind her children—Mike Manselle, Toni Brestogianis and Pamela Melvin—her siblings—Jean Mowery and Ed Barton—10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She blessed the lives of all around her. A private memorial service will be held Saturday July 28, 2018 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052.
