William D. “Bill” Maple, 93, of Independence, MO, passed away February 21, 2018. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 28th at 10:00am, at Carson Speaks Chapel 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Bill was born February 12, 1925, to Homer and Glessner (Weaver) Maple in Moundville, MO. Bill grew up on the family farm in Moundville and graduated from Nevada High School in 1942. He served as a Signalman for the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. He married the love of his life, Joye, on Valentine’s Day 1949, and together they raised their family in Independence. He spent his career employed by the KC Southern Railroad as a railroad engineer. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Joye. He is survived by his sons, Kevin Maple (Kathy) of Raymore and Kent Maple (Carol) of KC, KS; his daugthers, Laura Maple-Kerns (Harold) of Savannah, MO and LeeAnn Hazelrigg of Independence; and 4 grandchildren, Nellie Parman, Zachary Kerns, Austin Kerns, and Blake Hazelrigg.
