Ron Marek, 72, of Sugar Creek, MO passed away Monday, February 29, 2016. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 am Thursday at Saint Mark’s Catholic Church 3736 S Lee's Summit Rd, Independence, MO 64055. Mass of a Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 am Thursday at the church. Interment will follow at Mound Grove Cemetery. Ron was born May 14, 1943 in Independence, MO to Michael and Mary Marek. He went all through scouts and was a part of the Tribe of Mic-o-Say. Ron graduated from De La Salle Military Academy and was a member of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. He was Sergeant E-5 Special Agent in Military Intelligence. While in the armed forces, he worked as a special agent in Thailand. He received 2 commendation medals for his outstanding work in Vietnam and Thailand. After the military he earned his Bachelor’s of business degree majoring in Industrial Relations from CMSU. He worked and retired from both ARMCO Steel and Hantover. In his free time, Ron would enjoy fishing, hunting and scuba diving. Ron will be remembered by his sister Vicki Stumpenhaus and husband Larry of Searcy, AR; a brother Jim Marek and wife Denise of Holt, MO; and several nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Marek. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or Saint Mark’s Catholic Church in Independence.
