It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Marolyn Lautaret, 80, of Independence, Missouri on October 12, 2024. Marolyn was born November 23, 1943, to John and Virginia (Slemp) Steele in Craig, Missouri. Marolyn spent most of her life in Missouri, but also had cherished memories from her early childhood years in California.
Marolyn fondly recalled her summers detasseling corn with her sisters and meeting her high school sweetheart, Mike Boyd. After graduating from high school in 1961, she took on various secretarial roles in downtown Kansas City while sharing an apartment with two best friends. She felt great pride that she was able to make it on her own when her parents moved back to California.
In 1962, she married Mike Boyd, with whom she had three beautiful daughters. Marolyn enjoyed several successful careers over the years, including working for GFC and Knight Ridder Media Company before retiring from Clarion Hotel in Branson, Missouri, in 2010. In 1995, she married Ron Lautaret and the two shared many happy years together while they lived in Forsyth, Missouri.
Marolyn embraced life and loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. A proud grandmother, she was affectionately known as “Grandma Moo” to her three grandchildren. Family was everything to Marolyn. She looked forward to the annual Slemp family reunions, where playing poker and reminiscing brought her immense joy. She cherished trips to New Orleans, Florida, California and Saipan. A devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, Marolyn was a season ticket holder during the early years of the Chiefs when Arrowhead Stadium was called the Kansas City Municipal Stadium. Never missing a game, she always showed her unwavering support for her team.
Marolyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Ramona Lynn Boyd; her husband, Ron; her son-in-law, Brian Buchanan; her parents; and her sisters, Gracie Moser and Betty Guthrie. She is survived by her daughters, Kim Buchanan, Debbie (Tim) Jost, her grandchildren, Tori (Taylor) Bevirt, Andrew Jost, Emma Buchanan and her sisters; Jean Yadon and Helen Roberts. Marolyn also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and countless friends.
Marolyn wished to be cremated and rather than a funeral or service, she would like everyone to remember the good times they shared together.
Marolyn’s warmth, laughter, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
