Ila Marshall (Hoskins)

Ila Hoskins Marshall, 88, Independence, MO, died March 1, 2016 at home. The family plans a celebration of life at Stone Church, Independence on March 26 at 10 .a.m Ila was a lifelong resident of Independence. In 1946 she graduated from William Chrisman H.S. and began a career with AT&T, retiring in 1990. Ila was a member of Community of Christ, serving in the office of Priest. She taught youth as a Skylarks & Orioles leader and an ACA instructor. She was a member of Laurel Club; Missouri River Canoeing Club; Ozark Wilderness Waterways Club; Telephone Pioneers and Communication Workers of America AFL-CIO. She hosted many foreign students through People-to-People, and AFS. Ila drove a schoolbus between 1963-70; she was a wedding consultant for Jewel Johnson Florist before resuming her telephone career in 1974 with Southwestern Bell as a cable splicer and radio technician. In 1997 she rescued an 1880 Victorian house from demolition, moving it half a mile to a new lot. She traveled widely in the U.S., Europe and Okinawa. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Clyde Milton Marshall Jr. Their children are Diane and Steven Marshall of Independence, Debra Gagnon of Blue Springs, and Scott Marshall of Lee’s Summit. In 1971 Clyde and Ila became guardians of George B. Smith. Ila is survived by 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
