Loretta Sue (Easterly) Marshall, 83, of Independence, MO passed away Monday, December 15, 2014. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 19th at Carson Speaks Chapel; 1501 W Lexington Ave, Independence, MO. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20th at the chapel. Burial will be at Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence, MO.
Loretta was born July 29, 1931 on a farm in Greene County, MO outside of Strafford. She was one of four children born to Lillie Belle (Wilson) and William Easterly, Sr. She graduated from Strafford High School and soon after met her beloved husband, Gilbert Marshall. They made their home in the Rockford/ Loves Park, IL area where they lived for 30 years. Together they raised three children. As an extremely devoted follower of Christ, she joined the RLDS church in the 1950’s and was most recently attending the First Branch of the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Independence. She has served as vacation church school director, women’s leader, and teacher of church school and nutrition classes. She also has served as a church organist and choir member and wrote two hymns. Inspired by the scriptures to encourage healthy living, she opened her first Rainbow Natural Foods store in Loves Park. She then opened a second location in Independence in 1978. She and Gilbert moved to Independence in 1981 where she owned and operated the second location until her last days. Loretta loved to travel, taking her family on trips to Disney World, and organizing and leading groups of friends to many parts of the world. She is remembered as a spiritual, hard working, compassionate and most loving person. Loretta will be missed by all who knew her.
She leaves behind her husband of 63 years, Gilbert; daughters, Pat Walsh and husband Rod; Pam Benson all of Independence, MO; son, Wayne Marshall and wife LaVon of Des Moines, IA; eight grandchildren, Jonathan and Joshua Walsh, Jill Perry, Jennifer and Janelle Cross, Jeff Benson, Miranda Riley, and Marissa Marshall; nine great grandchildren; brother, Bill Easterly and wife Martha of Strafford, MO; and sister, Mary Lou Wommack and husband Curtis of Nixa, MO; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends who will miss her. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Joe Easterly and wife Dorothy.
