James Patrick “Jim” Martes, Sr., 71, of Independence, passed away July 31, 2018. A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 8th from 2-3pm with a memorial service following at 3pm, both at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Jim was born October 4, 1946 to Joseph and Josephine (Hecht) Martes in Idaho Falls, ID. After his service in the U.S. Army, he met his love Linda Stout in 1970, and three weeks later, they married and stayed married for 48 years. Jim was an avid collector of antique radios and music albums. He loved music of all genres and was current on what was happening on the music scene. He also loved motorcycles and classic cars. Jim was known for his laugh and making those around him laugh. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, his son, Jimmy Martes, Jr. of Independence, his grandchildren, Patrick, Curtis, Chance and Samantha, his sister, Jeanne Martes of Liberty, nieces, Bridgette Howell and Jennifer Irvin, as well as, several great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, David Martes and his brother, Bill Martes. Contributions may be made in his honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
