Lewis “Bud’ Martin, 98, of Independence, MO passed away April 5, 2018. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, at the Suburban Chapel with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Bud was born November 24, 1919 in Calhoun, MO to William and Dora (Moreland) Martin. In 1982, Bud retired from Phillips Petroleum after 31 years. He was very active, serving as a deacon for Immanuel Baptist Church, Assistant Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America, member of Mic-O-Say, assistant director for Bethel 2G Jobs Daughter, was a Mason 32nd Degree, and was a lifetime member of the Independence Lodge 76, for over 50 years. He was an active gardener, was a Navy veteran of WWII, and served in the Clinton, MO National Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 77 years, Mary Ida Martin; brothers, Gene Martin (Mary) and Earl Martin (Betty); and sister, Dorothy Strate (Warren). He is survived by his four children, Dr. (Lt. Col. Retired) Donald D. Martin (Elizabeth) of Blue Springs, MO, Lt. Col (retired) Darrell R. Martin (Linda) of Columbia, MO, Dr. Barbara N. Martin of Independence, MO, and Patricia E. Simcosky (Mark) of Independence; seven grandchildren, Annette Martin of Independence, Christopher Martin of Blue Springs, Dr. Lisa Martin Hawver of Wildwood, MO, Ryan Simcosky of KC, Major Jonathan Martin of Fort Sill, OK, Matthew Martin of Blue Springs, and Mary Paige Simcosky of Independence; and eight grandchildren.
