Verna Dee Martin

Verna Dee Martin, 81, Independence, MO. died Sept. 11, 2004 at Independence Regional Health Center. A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Monday, Sept. 20 in the Community Room at The Groves, 1515 W. White Oak, Indep., MO. Cremation. The family requests no flowers please but contributions can be made to the Alzheimer�s Assoc. or the American Cancer Society. Dee was born June 17, 1923 in Independence and lived most all her life there. She graduated from William Chrisman High School and also attended Graceland College. Dee was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, and was an accounting clerk for the Community of Christ for twenty-three years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Stone Church and sang in the Messiah Choir for many years. Dee was preceded in death by her husband William H. Martin in 1984, her brother Harold A. Savage in 1993, and parents Ralph G. and Ola D. (Gunsolley) Savage. She is survived by daughter Maureen L. Martin, Indep., MO; brother Kenneth E. Savage, Parsons, KS; sister-in-law Jean Savage, Indep., MO; step-daughters Jerri Ross, Fairbanks, AK; and Janice Coleman, Seattle, WA.
