Mary Sue Phipps affectionately known as Sue, born on September 21, 1935, in Osage Beach, Missouri to her loving parents, Earl and Dorothy (George) DeGraffenreid, passed away on July 16, 2024, in Overland Park Kansas.
Sue was woman of many talents and in her younger years, she enjoyed sewing beautiful clothing for her children and her daughter’s doll’s. She was also skilled and found joy in crocheting. Sue had a soft spot for animals and showered them with love and care. She had a love for music and could often be found listening and dancing to her favorite, Elvis Presley. Sue loved cooking meals for her family and friends. Her grandchildren have a special place in her heart, and she took pleasure in spoiling them with endless affection.
A woman of grace and warmth, Sue touched the lives many with her kind spirit and fun-loving personality. Her presence illuminated any room entered, bringing joy to those around her.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Preston Phipps; her children, Cathy (Frank) Curatalo, Mark (Dawn) Tuell, Anita Draggoo, Jeff (Charlotte) Tuell; stepchildren; grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Ruth Miller; nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends who will forward the light she brought into their lives. She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Dorothy DeGraffenreid; and siblings, Don DeGraffenreid, Marvin DeGraffenreid, Dorothy Louise DeGraffenreid and Ester Joann DeGraffenreid.
The services to honor and celebrate the life of Mary “Sue” Phipps will be held at Speaks Suburban, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. A visitation will take place on Sunday, July 21, 2024, starting at 1:00 PM followed by a Service at 2:00 PM to pay tribute to a remarkable woman who will hold a place in the hearts of those who knew her. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
