Louis Thomas Matt

Louis Thomas Matt, 83, Lee’s Summit, MO passed away January 10, 2023. Private Services will be held at a later date.

Louis was born July 4, 1939 in Danbury, IA to Earl and Alice (Collins) Matt as the 6th of their ten children. Throughout his life, Louis was known as a hard worker. After graduating Danbury High School in Iowa, he enlisted in the Army Reserves. He met the love of his life, Geraldine “Jerri” Eckhoff, whom he wedded on July 14, 1962. Together with Jerri, Louis had three sons – Todd, Cory, and Ryan. Louis helped care for his family’s farm in Iowa and started his career in car sales with the Ford Dealership in Missouri Valley, IA, where he worked from 1966 to 1976. After some time, Louis found his way to Kansas City, MO, where he established Matt Ford in 1976. He worked continuously towards his business’ success, alongside his sons for a time, until he sold it and retired in 2021. In his younger years, Louis was known to enjoy golfing and hunting on a farm he had purchased for himself. In his later years, he devoted himself to spending time with his grandchildren, often attending football or baseball games, and supporting them in other events they participated in.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Alice (Collins) Matt; and siblings, Billy, Rita, Jack, Wayne, Shirley, Roger, and Dick. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Geraldine “Jerri” Matt; sons, Todd (Julie) Matt, Cory (Deena) Matt, and Ryan (Sumerlyn) Matt; grandchildren, Evan, Liam, Noah, Lena, and Kira; and sisters, Marsha and Mary.
