James L. Mattheis

James L. Mattheis, 48, of Independence, MO passed away, Monday, February 8, 2016 at his residence. Cremation is planned with a Memorial Mass to be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 13, 2016 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055. The family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m., until service Saturday at the church. A short celebration of life and luncheon following, all are welcome. Donations may be made in his name to St. Mark’s Catholic Church. James was born July 3, 1967 in Parkston, SD to Delbert and Sheila (Thury) Mattheis. He graduated from Lenox High School in Lenox, IA in 1985. He later did his undergraduate work at NW Missouri State University and received his Master’s degree in project management. He had worked as a certified project manager for Quest Diagnostics since 2011. He was an avid reader, a devout Iowa Hawkeye fan, and an NWMS alumnus. He was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church. He was a man with a large heart, proud of his accomplishments and was a man that put faith and family first in his life. He is survived by; his loving wife, Michele Mattheis of the home; a son, Reed Jameson Mattheis of the home; his parents, Delbert and Sheila Mattheis of Ankeny, IA; seven siblings, Kathy Pietz and husband Ron of Kaylor, SD, Vicky Doak of Pasadena, MD, Scott Mattheis and wife Teresa of Hartford, SD, Becky Newman and husband Greg of Parker, CO, Paul Mattheis and Traci of Cedar Rapids, IA, David Mattheis and Mary of Winona MN and Renae Smith and husband Steve of Ankeny, IA; the family dog, Penny Lane, work colleagues, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.
