Davey Matthias

Davey Lee Matthias, 82, of Independence, MO passed away Friday, May 25, 2012. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 112 W. 23rd St., Independence, MO 64055. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 208 S. LaSalle St., Suite 1500, Chicago, IL 60604-1242. Davey was born January 30, 1930 in Lancaster, KS to Carl and Mildred (Davey) Matthias. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Independence Power and Light after 35 years of dedicated service. Davey was in the Independence Police Reserves for 37 years, and worked for the Independence School District for 16 years. Mr. Matthias is survived by his children John Matthias and wife Lynn, Lisa Matthias; grandchildren Andrea, David, Leanne, Michael, Heather; four great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, and son James.
