David Wayne Matthias

David Wayne Matthias of Lees Summit, MO passed away Wednesday December 4, 2019. David was born February 19, 1982 in Independence, MO. He grew up in Independence and went to Truman High School and graduated in 2000. He then went to Longview Community College where he graduated from their Automotive Program. After graduation from Longview he went to work at Cable Dahmer Chevrolet in Independence for 16 years. David enjoyed his career as an Automotive Technician. You would often find him working on vehicles outside of work for family and friends. David married Kristin Gayle Yates on May 17, 2003. They were blessed with their daughter Madison Makenna Matthias on January 30, 2004. A little over a year later they were blessed with their son Mason David Matthias on June 9, 2005. As a young child David mowed with his Grandpa Dave Matthias to earn extra money. As the years went on David eventually started his own lawn mowing business and continued that up until he passed away. To carry on the family tradition, he was teaching his son Mason the lawn business. David very much enjoyed this quality time with his son. Over the last year David and his dad John, and his son Mason all mowed together. David was very proud of Madison and Mason and kept very busy by being a part of their activities. David enjoyed being a “Cheer Dad” and supported Madison through 11 years of Competitive Cheerleading as well as Varsity Cheerleading at Lees Summit West High School. The time he spent with Madison at her cheerleading events created some very special memories for him as he was so proud of his daughter. Since Mason was a young child he tried multiple sports where David supported him through each one. Eventually Mason found Lacrosse to be the sport he loved the most. David was very proud of his son and he went to all of his games and tournaments. David enjoyed being a “Lacrosse Dad” and he felt these were very special moments he had with his son. David and his family took many family vacations over the years and some of their vacations were planned around Cheerleading competitions and Lacrosse tournaments. One of David’s favorite things was fishing in the ocean with his kids. David is survived by 2 children, Madison Matthias and Mason Matthias of Greenwood, MO. His parents John and Linea Matthias of Independence, MO and his sister Andrea Torres (husband Mike) of Independence, MO. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday December 15, 2019 at 2:00pm at Carson-Speaks Chapel 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Independence, MO 64052. (816) 252-7900. The service will last approximately 45 minutes. (There will not be a visitation.) We would like to offer the opportunity for a few family and friends to speak at the service if they choose to do so. After the service guests will have an opportunity to view pictures and flowers and may walk through a procession line to speak with the family.
