William Louis Mauer Sr.

William Louis Mauer, Sr., 89 of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022 at his residence. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 600 N. Liberty St., Independence, MO 64050. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday at Leavenworth National Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time Wednesday at the church. Donations may be made in hi name to the Wounded Warrior Project. William was born March 16, 1933 in Salina, KS to Alfred and Nell Catherine Mauer. He grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Lillis Catholic High School. He proudly serviced in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and retired after achieving the rank of sergeant major from the Marines after 20 years. He worked for Case/ IH plant in Fairfax, KS for 30 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and lifetime member of the American Legion. He is survived by; his wife, Dorothy Jeanne of the home; a son, William L. “Bill” Mauer, Jr. and wife Renee of Leawood, KS and 2 grandchildren, Will and Cole. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alfred “Pete” Mauer.
