Bothus Selby "Red� Mayes, 81 of Independence, MO passed September 22, 2003 at Rosewood Health Center. "Red� was born January 2, 1922 in Lenoir City, Tennessee the second of three sons born to Frank & Beulah (Watts) Mayes. "Red� married Joan Marie O�Brien, November 11, 1954 in Alcorn County, Mississippi. He later married Virginia Lee (Rone) Hill, September 26, 1964 in Buchanan County, MO. "Red� served in the US Army from 1939 to 1969 retiring as a Master Sergeant. He then was a bridge and high steel painter for Stanley Hanks of Painters District Council #3 in Independence from 1970 to 1984. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Mayes, August 28, 2003 a son, Michael Brian Mayes, his parents, a brother Charles Everett Mayes, an adopted sister, Nellie (Mayes) Fry, and his first wife Joan. He is survived by his children, Karen Walker and husband Dennis of Hamilton, Donna Lunnon and husband Greg of Oak Grove, John Mayes and wife Mary of Belton, Linda Rosewaren and husband Keith of Independence, Kevin Rock and wife Jan of Smithville, Virginia Lea Fattig and husband Brian of St. Joseph, and Laura Mayes of North Hollywood, CA; one brother James Wendell Mayes and wife Amy of Pardeeville, WI.; nineteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, September 26 , 2003 at George C. Carson & Sons Funeral Home with visitation from 12:00 to 1:00 pm prior to the services. Burial in Mt.
