Mary Alice Mayfield, 89 of Independence, Missouri passed away peacefully on March 22, 2022. Mary was born on April 19, 1932, to Orus Wilson and Margaret Wilson. She was a Unit Secretary at the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital, a Claims Adjustor for GEHA, and a school librarian for Elm Grove Elementary School. She was the Den Mother for Cub Scout Den 221 for many years. Mary enjoyed reading, puzzles, Royals and Chiefs games, sewing, knitting, and watching John Wayne movies. She loved to decorate her home for the Christmas and Easter seasons.
She is preceded in death by her parents Orus Wilson and Margaret (Wilson) Shay, her stepfather Charles Shay, brothers Robert & Samuel, sisters, Margaret, Judith, and Cheryl and her son Phillip Mayfield. Her survivors include three sisters, Elizabeth Brady, Sarah Gibbs and Barbara Wilson, and sons Walter Jr, Mark, John & Clifford, daughters Kathy and Lisa, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. in Independence, Missouri on Sunday, March 27th from 5-7 p.m. A private funeral service will be held later for immediate family only.
