Roger Howard Mayhew was born January 16, 1943, in Plainville, KS. He was the son of Howard Nathan Mayhew and Edna Marie Palmberg Mayhew. Roger went to be with his heavenly Father on August 21, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Stephen Howard Mayhew.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years Claretta Mae Tannahill Mayhew, son Richard Albert Mayhew, granddaughter Makayla Mayhew, sister Sue Ann Shineman (Jim), brother-in-law Allan Tannahill and wife Brenda, nieces Catherine Anne Franssens (Shawn), Ann-Janette Langhauser (Marc), Sarah Suzanne Schraml (Mike), great nieces and nephews MacKenna and Gabriel Franssens; Nathan, Cara, and Drew Langhauser; Lillian and Grace Schraml.
He was a graduate of Plainville Rural High School Class of 1961, Fort Hays State University Class of 1965. Roger taught science classes at Emporia, KS, Kansas City Nowlin Jr. High, and Pembroke Country Day School, Kansas City.
He retired as Sales Manager from Freeman Products, Inc. after 19 enjoyable years.
Over the years, Roger had been active in Boy Scouts, coaching baseball, helping Claretta with her Shaklee business, square dancing, golfing, and the church. Plus, he was a loyal Royals and Chiefs fan! He never met a stranger and was blessed by wonderful friends - always ready to lend a helping hand. He will be missed by many.
The family is planning a memorial service mid-October in Plainville, KS. Requesting no flowers. Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Independence, 400 W Maple, Independence, MO 64050.
