George Francis McCarthy, Independence, MO passed away Friday, June 1, 2012.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church; 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd, Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Mercy.
George was born in Kansas City, MO the son of William and Grace (Schultz) McCarthy. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War. George retired from the Melville Shoe Corporation which included Thom McAnn Shoes. After retirement George continued working with Shoe Carnival. He was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church.
George was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
Survivors include his faithful dog Lola; wife Eleanor McCarthy; daughters, Brenda McCarthy-Ohlemeier and husband Doug, Catherine Eib and husband Ron; sons, George McCarthy, Jr., Tim McCarthy and wife Caroline; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and additional nieces, nephews and cousins.
