David Alan McCarty, 74, passed away on August 26, 2017. A visitation will be held from 1-2pm, with funeral service at 2pm, both Wednesday, Aug. 30, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. Burial to follow at Floral Hills Cemetery.
David was born on November 3, 1942, in Independence, MO, to Everett and Alice (nee Westwood) McCarty. He attended Lee’s Summit High School, and was a machinist for Fike Metal. He went back to school for computer science, and then worked as a computer operator for Associated Wholesale Grocers. After retirement from AWG, he briefly worked as a Wal-Mart cashier.
David was rarely seen without a smile on his face. His eyes would twinkle when he was up to his “ornery” ways. He made people smile, and he would always leave with: “Have a blessed day!”
He and his family made numerous trips to Colorado and other western states to visit family and go camping and hiking. He also loved antiquing and refinishing wood to its natural beauty.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Marcia McCarty; daughters, Sheri Cathcart and Teri Beasley; 2 grandchildren, David (Lauren) Cathcart and Amber (Gabrielle Rodriguez) Cathcart; 3 great-grandchildren, Michael Cassidy, Silas Grey, and Finley Rae Cathcart; brother, Kenneth (Jackie) McCarty and sister, Pam Bellamy (Jerry Johnson); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Alice McCarty and two sisters, Karron Simmons and Sharron Trundle.
