Ed McCarty, 84, of Independence, MO, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018. A visitation will be from 2-3pm on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Carson-Speaks Chapel 1501 W. Lexington Ave, Independence, MO, 64052. A service will follow at 3pm at the chapel. Cremation is planned with inurnment at a later date at Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eastgate Christian Church 4010 S. River Blvd, Independence, MO, 64055.
He was born in Meredosia, IL on May 17, 1934 to Oliver Dale McCarty and Charlotte Madeline (Hyatt) McCarty. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bobby D. McCarty (Shirley); two sisters, Marjorie Wait (Herbert) and Marilyn Prout (Larry).
Ed is survived by his long-time companion, best friend, and wife Nancy L. (Catron) McCarty; two daughters, Carrie Lynn Froemming (Daryl) of Maple Plain, MN and Terrie Renee Breetzke (Brian) of Ooltewah, TN; grandsons Andrew Froemming of California and Kendrick Froemming of Minnesota; two step-granddaughters Melissa (Breetzke) Meneses of Texas and Ashley (Breetzke) Regal of Michigan.
Ed’s education included: graduated (1952) from Westport High School, Kansas City, MO; B.S. in Education (1956) from CMSU, Warrensburg, MO where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity; M.A. in Education (1965) from UMKC in Kansas City, MO; Educational Specialist (1968) from UMKC, Kansas City, MO; a M.S. in Management (1973) from University of Utah. His career in vocational education included Elementary Industrial Arts; Junior High Industrial Arts; UMKC Project Director; Elementary and High School Principal; UMKC Consultant and Curriculum Specialist in New Careers Program; Director, UMKC Dental Lab Tech Education; Asst. Director of Manpower Training Skills Center Kansas City, KS Schools; Specialist II, Adult Vocational-Technical Education; Training Coordinator, Project TALL (Training Alternatives for Living and Learning); Director of Area Vocational-Technical School, Kirksville R-III Schools; Director of Area Vocational-Technical School, Warrensburg R-VI Schools; Regional Director of Design & Development, American Multi-Cinema, Inc.; Head Start Program Financial Specialist, U.S. Government Department of Health and Human Services (retired 6-30-1998).
Ed was a member of: Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS), Independence, MO Police Department; Moose Lodge #10 (Administrator for 10 years and Pilgrim Degree); Fraternal Order of Eagles #3717; American Legion Post #21, Independence; Masonic Alpha Lodge #659, North Kansas City; and Ararat Shrine. Also he proudly served in the United States Army from February 1957 until March 1963.
