Gwendolyn McClain, 91, of Independence, MO, passed away, Friday, July 23, 2004, at Independence Regional Health Center. Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at the S. Crysler Community of Christ Church. The casket will be open at the church for viewing from 5:30 until service time Wednesday for viewing. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m., to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Private interment will be in the Mound Grove Cemetery. Gwendolyn was born December 30, 1912 in Omaha, Nebraska to Lester and Myrtle (McIninch) Coon. She grew up in Independence and graduated from William Chrisman High School. She was a homemaker and life member of the Community of Christ Church, The Restoration Trails Foundation and Outreach International. She was married to William Blair McClain, who passed away in 1999. She was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth B. McClain in 1982. Survivors include; 2 sons, A.D. McClain and his wife Glenda of St. Louis, MO and Dahryl McClain and his wife Joyce of Clawson, MI; a sister, Thelma Louise Shakespeare and her husband Wayne of Independence, MO and their children, Cheri Testerman and David Shakespeare; grandchildren; Shannon Martin, Sharron Closson, Scott McClain, Melanie McClain, Melissa McClain, Kenneth McClain, Keith McClain and Arnella Park and 21 great grandchildren. Donations may be made to the Community of Christ Temple Endowment Fund and Graceland University.
