Virginia McClain died peacefully on November 28, 2016 after a period of declining health. Virginia was born in Green Forest, Arkansas on Dec. 9, 1919, to Tom Anderson and Ethel Callen. She lived most of her life in Independence, MO as well as wintering in the Rio Grande Valley. She and her husband, Jay, traveled throughout the world and had many adventures. She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, JR McClain; son, Paul; and daughter-in-law Cindy Mills; She is survived by daughter Chris McClain of Ferrisburgh, Vermont; daughter-in-law Heidi McClain; grandsons Ned and wife Sarah; Brad and wife Krista; and grandchildren Claire, Ajax and Emma, all of Colorado. Virginia was an accomplished artist, a voracious reader and a world traveler. She will be missed by her family including dozens of nieces, nephews and their children and her many, many friends. A visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Friday, December 2nd at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St., Independence MO 64055. Burial will follow at Mound Grove Cemetery, N.
