Miriam Ann McClary, 98 of Naples, FL passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Avow Hospice House in Naples. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 8, 2018 in the Watson Chapel at Christ United Methodist Church, 14506 E. 39th St. South, Independence, MO 64055. Private family burial will follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Donations may be made in her name to Christ UMC. Miriam was born September 16, 1919 in Independence, MO to John Riley and Grace (Vale) Latimer and was a longtime Independence residence graduating from William Chrisman in 1937. In 1938 she was Miss Independence in the Miss America Pageant. Miriam was a beloved wife mother and homemaker who enjoyed her family and serving the Lord. She and her husband were active members of Christ UMC where he served as a deacon and they taught Sunday school. She was married in 1940 to George McClary and enjoyed 73 years of marriage until he passed in 2013. Survivors include; a daughter, Jane Guyton and husband Rick of Naples, FL; 3 grandchildren, Patrick L. Guyton and wife Kristin, Shane P. McClary and wife Lynn and Lori L. Starr and husband David and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James R. McClary.
