William “Bill” Quinn McConnell of Independence, MO, passed away August 20, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born on September 14, 1924 in Kansas City, MO to Jesse and Minnie (Warrem) McConnell. After graduating from North East High School, Bill joined the Navy. While in the Navy Bill earned the Victory Medal, American Area, Good Conduct, Asiatic Pacific, and the European African Middle East medals, earning the rank of Signalman, Second Class V-6. After a 2 year courtship with the love of his life, and the end of his tour of duty, Bill returned to Kansas City to marry Nellie Cochrane. After 10 years of marriage they moved to the Independence area to raise their family, Cheryl and Linda. Bill truly believed, and he would tell everyone that “lived the American Dream”. He was very active, and enjoyed life to the fullest; his interest were varied and many. From building a boat in the garage to flying, Bill always managed to stay busy, and always with his wife by his side. Bill was quick with a joke, and always had a story to tell. Nell and Bill also enjoyed traveling and meeting people. He never met a stranger. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, and 4 brothers. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Nell, daughters Cheryl Goodwillie, and Linda Thomas, 6 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
