Dorothy (Joan) McCracken, 79 of Independence Mo. passed away November 15, 2013 at her home with all of her family by her side. Joan was born December 20, 1933 to Monnie and Jake Poynter. She was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker who delighted in spending time with her family. She also liked to travel and went on several cruises. She is survived by her husband of 63 years Jurel McCracken Sr. She leaves here daughter Carolyn Malcolm and husband Eddie; son Jurel Jr.(Bub) and wife Joni and son Bryan and wife Angie; grandchildren, Shawndra Short, Josh McCracken, Kati Thompson and husband Matt, Jessica McCracken, Jake McCracken; great grandchildren Jonathan Short, Waylon McCracken and Gracelyn Staggs; one brother Buddy Ray Poynter and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time Tuesday at the chapel. Donations may be made in her name to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care.
