Robert C. "Mac� McDonald, 86, of Independence, MO, passed away Monday, February 13, 2006 at the Rosewood Health Center surrounded by his family. Graveside services with full military and Masonic honors will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2006 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. Mac was born March 21, 1919 in Independence, MO to Dr. Robert and Clora (Charles) McDonald and has been a lifelong area resident graduating from Northeast High School. He then served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1942-46. He had worked as a Millwright for Armco Steel Company for over 32 years before he retired in 1982. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed camping fishing and traveling. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Kansas City, MO, a 50 year member of the Eastgate Masonic Lodge #630 AF&AM and the VFW. He was married to Naomi (Shepperson) Bass on June 8, 1980, she survives of the home. Other survivors include; 3 daughters, Robin Shepperson and husband Joseph of Danville, PA, Sherrie Gibson and her husband Stephen of Independence, MO and Shannon Abeln of Naples, FL; 3 grandsons, 4 granddaughters, and 7 great grandchildren and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, a son Rick Bass in 2004 and a great granddaughter Lauren Lockard in 1999. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to American Diabetes Association or to The American Cancer Society.
