Jerry Mcginnis Sr

Jerry Dean McGinnis, Sr., 70 of Independence, MO lost his battle with cancer and passed peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 21, 2018. Visitation and Service will be held at the Fairmount Christian Church located at 641 S. Ash Ave., Independence, Missouri 64053. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be Friday, October 26, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a private graveside service at Mound Grove Cemetery.
Jerry was born on Thursday, February 12, 1948 in Versailles, Missouri to Hubert D. and Bertha L. (Miller) McGinnis. Jerry graduated from Van Horn High School and thereafter joined the United States Navy. He served our Country proudly from 1965 to 1968. Upon returning home to Independence, Jerry became a construction worker and owned his own business until his retirement. Jerry loved old cars and spent many hours working on his 1967 Ford Mustang. He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with family.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Hubert D. McGinnis; his mother, Bertha L. Caylor (McGinnis); a brother, H. Duane McGinnis; his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
Jerry leaves behind a brother, Gary P. McGinnis of Independence; his son, Jerry D. McGinnis, Jr. (Tina) of Independence; his daughter, Crystal M. McGinnis of Independence; six grandchildren (Sandra Miranda, Michelle McGinnis, Emily McGinnis, Allison McGinnis, Amiah Mollett, and Madison Wharton); 2 step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
