Kathleen Marie McGowan, 79 of Independence, MO passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055 with cremation to follow. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time Friday and the chapel. Kathleen was born October 8, 1938 in Detroit, MI. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Lake Leelanau, MI in 1956, and moved to California where she began her nursing career and met her husband Roy. After several moves while Roy was in the Navy, they settled in Kansas City in 1970 to raise their family. She worked as an LPN in Independence, MO for over 30 years, first as a surgical nurse and then for an ophthalmologist. She was an avid KC sports fan especially loved the KC Royals, and she and her family attended the very first game played in Kauffman Stadium. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband. Survivors include; 2 sons, Steve McGowan and wife Gayla of Independence, MO and Todd McGowan of Lee’s Summit, MO; 4 grandchildren, Heather, Michael, Alexis and Hannah and a great grandchild, Anthony.
