Roy Dewayne Mcgowan

Roy D. McGowan, 75, of Independence, MO, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 pm Friday, April 8th at Speaks Suburban Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the chapel. Cremation will follow. Roy was born September 15, 1940 in Waynesville, MO as one of five children to Leroy and Esther Mae (Janes) McGowan. When he was in elementary school his family moved to the Independence area where he graduated from William Chrisman High School class of 1959. Afterwards he enlisted in the US Navy where he proudly served three tours in Vietnam as a Navy pilot from 1962 – 1970. He married his beloved Kathleen Marie (Plamondon) on November 28, 1964. He worked as a Systems Analyst for TWA (now Worldspan) until his retirement in 2005. His family remembers his quiet and subdued demeanor as well as his strong work ethics. Roy is loved and will be missed.
Survivors include wife, Kathy of the home; sons, Steven McGowan (Gayla) of Independence, MO; and Todd McGowan of Lee’s Summit, MO; brother, George McGowan (Sheryl); sister, Yvonne Sheilds; and sister, Elain Hubbard (Terry) all of Lee’s Summit, MO; grandchildren, Alexis and Hannah McGowan and Heather and Michael Felder; and great grandson, Anthony Felder. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gary McGowan. The family encourages contributions to Groves Community Hospice in his memory.
