Roy Lee McKinley, a loving father, passed away at his home on Saturday, January 9, 2021. He was 75. Roy was born to Roy and Anna McKinley on April 10, 1945 in Wichita, Kansas.
Roy graduated from Wichita West High School in 1964. He was an athlete and spent most of his time active in football and wrestling. After high school Roy began his career in the United States Army. He specialized as a helicopter mechanic during the Vietnam War. Roy was a good father and loved his children fiercely. He enjoyed sharing his love of the theatre with them and teaching them the importance of being generous to others. Roy made many efforts to support local charities dear to his heart. He was a hardworking man and was able to fix just about anything. He retired from Kansas City Power and Light Company after working at the Iatan power plant as a mechanic for 36 years. When Roy wasn't working he could be found cheering on his favorite teams, the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs. He will be missed dearly by his children, family and friends.
Roy is survived by his daughter, Megan Hennis (Justin); sons, Scott McKinley (Julie) and Brett McKinley (Carmen); grandchildren, Shannon McKinley and Makena Hennis; bonus grandchildren, Christian and Anthony Basa; sisters, Anna Howe and Carolyn McKinley; brothers, Mike and David McKinley.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, John McKinley.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2021 at 2pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri.
