Jerry McKinney, 75, of Independence, formerly of Sugar Creek, MO passed away Friday, July 6, 2012 at Centerpoint Medical Center. A gathering will be held from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Beacon Heights Community of Christ; 19402 E. Holke, Independence, MO 64057. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the church. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence, MO. Jerry was born July 18, 1936 in Independence to parents Karl and Neva (Caswell) McKinney. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for nine years and owned and operated a Standard Oil Station in Independence. Jerry was later in trucking transportation for Amoco Oil. He will forever be known as a true fighter, and was surrounded by his family when he died and administered to by brother-in-law, Chet Adkins. Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Adruth McKinney; son Anthony McKinney; daughter Kristen Schmidt (David); grandchildren Kyle, Keelan, Aidan, Jonathan, and Sarah; brothers Paul and Doug McKinney; sisters Karla Kiritsis and Karolyn Elliot; dear friend Bill Lake; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
