On April 29, 1936, Walt and Edith Shingleton gave birth to a beautiful baby girl they named Marlene Ruth. On Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, the good Lord called her up.
Marlene grew up in the Ozarks during our countries most troubling times and in the 1950s, she moved to the big city of Kansas City with her sister Carol, not looking for fame and fortune, just her place in the world. What she didn't know then was she would begin a life that would take many winding roads and end with a wealth of family and friends. All will miss her dearly. She will be remembered as Mame, Granny, Grams, and, for a very fortunate few, "Mom."
Marlene was always ready with a "pop-in-the-mouth," $20 or a hug, all of which were sometimes needed at the same time. She was a fighter to the end and can now get the rest she so deeply deserves. Thank you Marlene (Mom).
