Melva Lee McMilian, 92 of Independence, MO passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2022 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the chapel. Melva was born January 31, 1930 in Excelsior, MO to Leo V. and Elva (Bellamy) Williams and was a life long area resident. She was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker with many talents and interests. She loved music and played several instruments, enjoyed painting, reading and gardening. She had a strong Christian faith and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Independence. She is survived by four children; Terry McMilian and wife Margie, Pamela Sheddrick and husband Ron both of Independence, MO, Brent McMilian and wife Sue of Wheatland, MO and Todd McMilian and wife Shonna of Independence, MO; a brother, Earl “Bud” Williams of Boonville, MO; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred McMilian in 2006, 2 grandchildren, Celia and Jacob and 2 great grandchildren, Lily and Grace. Donations may be made in her name to Crossroads Hospice.
