Betty J. McMillin, 76 of Independence, MO passed away September 14, 2005 at the White Ridge Health Center, Lee�s Summit, Missouri. Services will be 10 am Monday, September 19th at Speaks Buckner Chapel; with interment in Buckner Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 8 pm at the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. Betty was born October 6, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri to Clarence E. McMillin and Lucille (Brooks) McMillin. She graduated from Lone Jack, Missouri High School and attended Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg, Missouri. Betty had been an Office Education Coordinator and a schoolteacher for 37 years. She taught four years in Missouri State schools and 33 years in the Kansas City Missouri School District, mostly at Northeast High School. She earned a B.S. at CMSU and a Masters of Business Education at the University of Wyoming. She was a longtime member of the Six Mile Baptist Church and was a world traveler, having traveled all over the globe. Among the organizations she was a member of are: Daughters of the American Revolution, Alpha Phi Sigma, Independence Shepherds Center and the Truman Community Heartland (Scholarship) Foundation. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lucille McMillin and a brother, Edward McMillin. She is survived by an aunt, Alice Pedrow of Lee�s Summit, Missouri; niece, Julia Fisher and her husband, two sons and daughter, of Kearney, Missouri; sister-in-law, Gilda R. McMillin of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; cousins, Gail A. Barham and her husband of Greenwood, Missouri, Phyllis Hale and her husband of Lee�s Summit, Missouri, and Frances Cooper of Wichita, Kansas. Betty was a kind hearted, generous person and was devoted to her faith, family and friends.
