Esther was born August 2, 1926 in Bird City, KS to Jay Earl and Leta Ellen (Elliott) Nichols. They started their family while living in Deepwater and Clinton, before settling in Bates City in 1956. Esther worked as a seamstress for over 20 years. Her talents also included crocheting, artex painting, needlepoint and some knitting. She loved to read, work on puzzles and play cards and board games. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed sharing Sunday and holiday dinners with her family. Always the caregiver, Esther doted on her husband and her family. She struggled when it came time for someone to help care for her, but loved her extended family at Payton Place and Asana Hospice. She was a strong woman with a deep love for her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George McMillin Sr.; son, George “Snookie” McMillin Jr.; grandchildren, Noah Morse, Terri Healy and Hud Keltner; great granddaughter, Elizabeth Born; three brothers; and four sisters.
