David Hugh Mcvicker

October 20, 1925 — December 30, 2013

David Hugh McVicker, 88, Independence, MO passed away Dec. 30, 2013. Memorial services will be at 2:30 pm, Sat., Jan. 4 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Committal services will be private. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm before the service at the chapel. At the family’s request, kindly omit flowers and make a contribution to the charity of your choice.
David was born Oct. 20, 1925 in Garner, IA and farmed most of his life. He farmed for forty years in Hampton, IA and in Polo, MO. He was a Past President of the Farm Bureau of Franklin County, IA. He also served as a custodian at Ott Elementary in Independence. He was an Elder in the Community of Christ and had served as pastor to congregations in Clear Lake, IA and Far West, MO. He loved to read about church history and history in general.
David was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years Harriett McVicker, of the home; sons Michael David McVicker, Cowgill, MO; Gary Hugh McVicker and wife Karen, Hampton, IA; daughters Susan Chow and husband Lindsey; Lori Leonard and husband Ron, all of Independence, MO; brother Daniel McVicker and wife Carla, Bevier, MO; sister Emma Jean Ross, Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren Jason, Bruce, Holly, Kevin, Chad, Crystal and Scott; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
