Sara V Medina, 81, of Blue Springs, MO passed away April 29, 2020.
Sara was born on September 11, 1938 to Francisco and Felicitas Velasquez. Sara was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, MO where she raised her 6 children with her husband, the late Carlos Medina. Sara worked for 19 years at Davis Paint as a warehouse foreman. Sara loved family gatherings, her church, and traveling with her sisters and grandkids. Sara was able to visit Israel twice and was proudly baptized in the Jordan River. Sara battled and beat lymphoma and uterine cancer. She loved watching the KC Royals and Chiefs. Sara was lovingly known as “Sarge” due to her gift of giving orders and keeping things organized. She was not only a sister, wife, mother, or Wita, Sara was the rock of the family and was taken too soon.
Sara was preceded in death by her husband Carlos Medina, parents Francisco and Felicitas Velasquez, son Gerald “Jerry” Gomez, granddaughter Consuelo “Connie” Dominguez, great-grandson Stephen Dominguez, sisters Jenny Martinez, Hope Diaz, Lilly Murrillo, and brother Benny Velasquez. Survivors include children Mary Cranford, Rebecca (Sal) Brancato, Mark (Sammi) Medina, Martina (Matt) Serecero, Eloisa Medina; 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, siblings Adolf (Lucy) Velasquez, Gil (Phyllis) Velasquez, Rudy (Karen) Velasquez, Rachel Contreras, Esther Salinas, Rosalie (Abel) DeParelta, Francisco Jr. Velasquez, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 17, from 6-8 p.m. at Speaks Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. and staggered to accommodate groups of no more than ten at a time in the chapel while maintaining social distancing guidelines. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 18, at Belton Assembly of God, 613 East North Avenue Belton MO 64012 with burial to follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery.
