Barbara Jean Meier (Saunders)

Barbara Jean Meier, 87 of Independence, MO passed away Saturday morning, August 31, 2019 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Cremation is planned with visitation at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 N Pleasant St, Independence, MO 64050. Barbara was born December 20, 1931 in Greeley, CO to Edwin and Beulah (Bales) Saunders and has been a longtime area resident. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and recently great great grandmother who enjoyed reading, collecting elephants and, most of all, spending time with her family. She was a Girl Scout leader for over 30 years and was very proud the of the many troops she taught. She later was an administrator for the Girl Scouts. She was a member of the Presbyterian and Baptist churches and was a long time Sunday School teacher. She was married to Edward Meier and they enjoyed many years together before he passed away in 2005. Survivors include; 3 children, Patti Meier of Independence, MO, Steve Meier and wife Susan of Kansas City, KS and Mike Meier and wife Shelley of Lone Jack, MO; 3 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
