Elsie Viola Gonyou Mellendorf, 95 of Independence, passed to her eternal reward on Jan 9, 2004 at Carmel Hills Living Center. Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. Sat. Jan 17, 2004 at the South Crysler Restoration Branch. 16101 E. Salisbury, Indep. MO. A Memorial Service with inurnment will the held at a later date in Oxford, MI with arrangement through Bossardet-Lynch Funeral Home in Oxford. Mrs. Mellendorf was born on June 23, 1908 to Simeon and Edna Gonyou in Wallaceburg, Ontario, Canada. She had resided most of her life in Michigan where she had attended school in Oxford, MI. She was a wonderful and caring homemaker and had briefly been employed with the Lake Orion Community Schools at Blanche Simms Elementary She was a member of the Oakwood Restoration Branch of Oakwood, Michigan. After moving to Independence she received ministry from the South Crysler Restoration Branch. On Dec. 24, 1925 Elsie married Albert Henry Mellendorf, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a great grandson, Eric B. Mellendorf and by four siblings. Mrs. Mellendorf is survived by a son and his wife, Bruce D. and Marge Mellendorf of Dell Rapids, SD. A daughter and her husband, Ardyce M. and Earl Koonce of Independence, MO. Three grandchildren, David B. Mellendorf and wife Debra of Fairview, TN, Brian L. Koonce and wife Shayla of Preston, MO and Aaron B. Koonce and wife Patricia of Jefferson City, MO. Five grandchildren, Karla M. Seaver and husband, Bryan, Danielle Koonce, Vanessa Koonce, Jacob Koonce and Victoria Koonce. One sister, E. Jean Kreps of Independence, MO. Elsie was dearly loved by her former daughter in law, Jeanette Mellendorf of Fairview, TN and by several nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends in both Michigan and Missouri.
